This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Welcome Baby!

We welcomed our first Grandbaby into the world two weeks ago today.
Of course, we think he is the most beautiful and special person on the planet :)

Mommy & Daddy are pretty proud too!

I've designed this file that would be fun on a card front, gift bag or even a pennant garland.

Quiet - Book Review

If you sometimes feel overwhelmed and out of place in this noisy, "wild & crazy" culture we live in, take heart - You are not alone! This book, Quiet- The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, will introduce you to others throughout history that have felt your pain, yet still left their mark. Pulling from her life experiences as an introvert working as a corporate lawyer, as well as her 5 years of research, Susan Cain offers suggestions for ways to cope and excel without feeling like the so-called misfit.

As a person who has often heard the comment "you are so quiet" I was totally delighted by this book. It is not often an introvert hears the message that it is acceptable to be quiet and reflective without being told that those attributes are also self-centered and indulgent.

Instead of viewing introversion as weak and limiting the book points to the strengths and advantages of having a calm and sensitive spirit. Also brought into focus is how introverts and extroverts can complement each other and work together to achieve great results - think brains & brawn or thought & action. This is a great read for parents, teachers and supervisors looking to understand and bring out the best in their child, student or employee.

Some of the topics covered in Quiet include - finding your "sweet spot" as far as social activity is concerned; how to recharge when going outside your comfort zone; how to do your best at your job (even if you are in sales!); and how to be a pseudo-extrovert (should you?)

The author has included an extensive Notes and Index section as well as a Readers Guide; a Recommended Reading list; tips for Public Speaking; tips for Parents and tips for Educators.

Whether you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert the best way to use the wealth of information in this book is summed up in this quote from the author "take what applies to you and use the rest to improve your relationships with others."

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Press through their Blogging for Books program. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Just Like Jesus Devotional - Book Review

Max Lucado’s goal with this 30 day devotional is to help us get to know the heart of Jesus so that our heart can experience a make-over as we strive to make our daily life more reflect Jesus.
Being a fan of Lucado’s writing, it is no surprise that I enjoyed this devotional. Up to this point I have not read his book Just Like Jesus, from which the devotional is derived, but this can definitely be a stand-alone book.

I so enjoy Lucado’s down to earth conversational style of writing. Each day he shares family stories and personal observations, all peppered with his homespun terminology (ie “stuckititis”).  Pair this with lots of scripture and some serious self-examination questions and somehow he makes God feel closer and more accessible.

This would be a terrific devotional to start in the days leading up to Easter or Christmas, but the 30 day format makes it easy to start at any time.

Each daily devotional starts with a Bible verse. Lucado uses several translations including NKJV, NLT, NIV, MSG, and KJV. Next is the daily writing. These often include more Biblical references along with Lucado’s personal reflections, observations, and anecdotes. Each day’s “Thinking” section includes 2-3 questions to uncover how the topic fits in with your life. The “Hearing” section includes more scripture giving additional insight into what God’s word has to say on the subject. “Reflecting” on that scripture reading, Lucado includes a couple more questions to help as you examine your relationship with God. And finally, “Speaking” is like a mini conversation starter for your prayer time with the Father each day.

I found this book a great resource in my ongoing minute-by-minute, back-up-and-start-again, learn-from-my-mistakes-and-move-on, quest to become “Just Like Jesus”.

I received this book for free from Thomas Nelson through their BookSneeze program. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Love Never Fails

Continuing with my February Heart Photos
I snapped this close-up of my locket.
(sometimes my pretty pink camera
tattles on me - see the reflection??!!)

A little de-saturation makes the reflection less
I also added textures from Kim Klassen's
Downton Collection - Cora adds a hint of pink &
Ethel ages the edges & corners.

Thanks for stopping by!

Love is Sweet

Everlasting Gobstoppers are the candy of choice at our house.
Well, actually my candy of choice would involve chocolate - but somehow that seems to disappear too quickly - story for another day! :)

Anyway . . .

Here's a heart photo I snapped over the weekend.

Ever so subtle changes after adding an overlay layer of Kim Klassen's CanvasBackMagic texture

Hubby wondered why these fellows were singled out for special recognition on their own platter.
Most photogenic, of course!! :)

Love is Cool

After many misses this winter the weather forecasters got it right this time.
We woke to a light blanket of snow covering the grass - just enough to cancel most classes in the area.
The fluffy white and intense morning light made a nice backdrop for a little snow doodle on the patio chair - and my first heart photo of February.

Have a Heart!!

January 31st!

Never knew the long, cold, winter month of January to pass so quickly!! (I've got to add here though, "winter" in Tennessee is nothing like WINTER in Indiana!)

I think I will start off the month of February with a challenge for myself.
Since I have an affinity for anything heart-shaped ♥
I'm going to try to snap a photo of a heart of some sort for each day of the month.
I'm not saying that I will get one posted on the blog every day . . . but I do want to check in often to share my progress! Anyone like to join me??

To help get us in a "heart-y" mood how about a little Pop-out Card.
Of course this file can be re-sized from itty-bitty gift card to "I love you tons" mega-card size :)   I'm thinking I may add a pair of lips and a mustache and use this one to send anniversary wishes.

Have some fun with it!
And if you'd like to share a photo of your creation I'd love to see!!

Cheers to February!

Texture Tuesday Photo

What a busy start to the year!
Plans were to check in here a bit more often, I'll try to do better!

I haven't played with photos for quite a while, but took a few spare moments to work on a transformation for Texture Tuesday.

This is BEFORE
This butterfly was keeping me company while I ate my lunch on the patio one beautiful warm day last October. He leisurely flitted from flower to flower allowing me time to run inside to grab my camera. He then graciously posed while I snapped several photos.

This is AFTER
I played around a bit with the saturation and added Kim Klassen's Scripted Edges and a quote I came across in a devotional a few days ago.

Hope your 2013 has gotten off to a wonderful start!

Happy 2013!

Wishing everyone

No matter how many times I make these tiny little
cuts I'm always amazed at the delicate details
