This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Are You Ready??

Are you ready to wave goodbye to 2010?
Ready or not 2011 is knocking at our door!
Hope you are able to take some time to reflect on the good and the not so good of the past year, make any needed adjustments and head into 2011 with renewed hope, optimism and confidence!

Last year was my first to choose a "word" and mine was TREASURE. It has been fun to look for the treasures in my life, both obvious and hidden. I've acquired quite a list and have enjoyed the time this year thinking about all that is most important to me.

This year I've chosen the word FOCUS. Somehow in the last two years I've become a little haphazard and haven't been able to accomplish all that I could. (I'm thinking it could be a result of all the changes in the last couple years - daughter's marriage, out of state move, 2nd daughter moving out on her own . . .) At any rate I feel it is time to get focused on where I'm at now in my life and move forward with purpose!! My goal is to be more intentional in what I'm doing with my time, creativity, and resources. Hopefully, by this time next year I'll have a long list of projects checked off my list, my "things" will be paired down somewhat, and my time will have been better spent.

A few of my findings while researching the word Focus . . .

*my favored definition - Clear & Sharply Defined
*comes from the Latin for hearth, fireplace, fire; therefore it's the Center of Activity or Energy
*fun thought - Adjustments may be required!! (yes, I'm sure they will!)
*from the Theasarus - Pinpoint, Heart
*verse -  Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Proverbs 4:25

In real terms I'd like to
  • Continue designing and sharing cutter files
  • Expand the selections in my etsy store
  • Make a recipe album for DD#2
  • Sew up some wallhangings for holidays throughout the year
  • Live Healthier - schedule exercise and eat better
  • Get more involved in my community
  • Keep God & Family #1 and #2
Okay then, now that I have that all written down here I can't decide if I'm enthused or nervous!!

To assist you in saying goodbye to 2010 I'm sharing my "Goodbye Words" cutter file.

Wishing you all a wonder-filled 2011!!

They didn't disappoint!!

Oh, goodness! How can it possibly be that long since I have posted??!!
We are well underway prepping for Christmas. I'm working on a few gifts, sewing projects, crafting projects and cards. I will try to share a few photos in the next couple weeks.
My mustachioed turkeys and glasses were a hit!
I knew my dinner guests wouldn't let me down!!
Turkey's got new looks

and so did my family!

So fun!

And all without any coaxing from me!

We had such a good time together - can't wait for Christmas so we can do it all over again!!

This is a very versatile file. I've used parts of it on Christmas cards and a scrapbook layout. You could also cut it from frosted vinyl to decorate a mirror, photo frame or glass block!

Thanksgiving Preparations

Always like to do something a little different when the family comes over for Thanksgiving.

These goofy guys graced our table a couple years ago.
Unfortunately, the ideas don't usually come to me until the date is fast approaching. So this year like most others, while I'm trying to tidy up, shop and pre-bake for the big day I'm also putting together placecards and other table decor.  Actually this year I'm  a little ahead of schedule since I complete these today . . .

Since opening my shop I've seen soooo many mustaches on etsy .  So I thought I'd feature a few turkeys in disguise at our Thanksgiving get-together this year.
I made these to hold our napkins and silverware and plan to add names and use them as placecards as well.
I happened to run across a bargain at Walmart - 2 plastic tumblers for $.50 - added a vinyl mustache to these as well . . . Should be good for a giggle or two!! You can tell I'll be breaking out the "good stuff" haha - (we don't own china, crystal or real silverware).

Do you think the disguise works??
Good luck fellas!

Hope you have a fun Thanksgiving and are blessed with many more things to be thankful for in the coming year!!

Thanks for visiting!!

Following the Shepherd

Not spending much time indoors this week - it is just TOO GORGEOUS outside!! Loving the warm sunshine! and knowing colder temps are fast approaching makes me appreciate it that much more.
I've gotten my garden cleaned out, have done some shrub pruning and flower bed sprucing up as well. (A "plus" I've noticed in these fall gardening endeavors - since night temps are colder there are a lot fewer bugs and spiders. Can definitely live without any more Big Ugly Spider Sightings!!)

We don't go for a lot of "add-ons" for our vehicles - we have an antenna ball to assist in identifying our small dark SUV in a parking lot filled with other small dark SUV's, but not much else. But . . . if you have a craft/vinyl cutter you've got to have something special on your back window don't you??

Here's what I came up with for us. A little "unique-ness" and a little witness ♥ . . .

If you applied the vinyl to a glass photo frame or a tile it would be lovely as home decor as well - great for your desk or as a gift!

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.

My Hero!

Thought I'd share how my little halloween project turned out . . .
Mild-mannered Accountant

So Fun!!

Didn't want to keep all the fun to myself so here's a related file to help you showcase your hero!

One Last Trick or Treater

Thought my days of making halloweeen costumes was over. But look what I have on my crafting table . . .

Hubby's gonna show his true colors at work on Friday!!

And here is a little princess for your halloween files.

Have you used any of these trick or treater files??
Would ♥ to see pictures!!

I can see clearly . . .

. . . now that I've washed my windows!  Oh, how I love clean windows!! We have several bay windows on the back side of our house and the afternoon sun loves to shine in and dance around my rooms. I think he feels much more welcome now that the dust, streaks and cobwebs are cleaned out once again!!

We enjoyed another great fall weekend here. A first for us - we took in a civil war reenactment. I even took some pictures to share!

Yes - we even saw Abe!

Wasn't it a beautiful day?

Speaking of sharing, here's another little trickster to add to your halloween cutting collection.

Here's a great Abe Lincoln quote - as appropriate now as ever -
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. ~ Abraham Lincoln
*Hope everyone is planning to vote in the upcoming election*

Awesome Autumn Activities!!

It was a beautiful weekend here!
We did a little leaf gazing
on our way to the Loveless Cafe for the Biscuits and Bluegrass Festival.
This was our first taste of their famous light-as-air homemade biscuits -
Quite Yummy!!

Sorry for the unimaginative photos - for some reason at this point in time I'd rather see things through my own eyes than through the lense of a camera. Fine for me - but it makes it a little difficult to share effectively! :(

Here's another trick or treater for a halloween layout or card. This might be cute with the title "Stop in for a Bite" as a party invite :)

Wishing you many moments to savor this week!

Well, I guess fall has arrived! Had to cover the plants last night to provide a little frost protection. It is quite a shock to go from 80 degree weather one day to 60 degrees the next. Why is it that 60 feels so warm in the Spring, but so cold in the Fall??

Been working on some crafty projects as well as setting up an etsy shop Whimsey Dimples Studio. Check it out if you're curious! I will be adding more inventory . . .  learning the ropes and listing items tends to consume quite a bit of time at this point!! But, I am learning and it will get easier and faster as I become more experienced. The good news is that I've made a couple sales - Hurray!!

Any of you have a shop? I'd love to check it out and give you some ♥!

I've been working on several little trick or treaters - here's the first . . .
I used her on this card

A Little Corny

Talked with my family in Indiana and it seems this year's crops are coming in early. Corn and beans are both ready and waiting in the fields for the big old combine to gather them in. Dad usually hopes to be finished up by Thanksgiving, but may be finished by Halloween this year. Of course that assumes there will be no heavy rains, equipment breakdowns, snow?!, or one of the numerous other things that can pop up and crimp those well laid plans! Go for it Dad!!

Just couldn't let this post go by without a corn-y joke - ready for a groan??
  • There was a man who entered a local paper's pun contest. He sent in ten different puns, in the hope that at least one of the puns would win. Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

Watching leaves turn

Hubby and I enjoyed a relaxing weekend and visited three area parks. One was hosting an antique car show, one a "step back in time" fest, and the third was a civil war memorial we passed on our way home. Truly enjoyed the fresh air and change of pace. Trees here are just beginning to show a change of color and the fall harvest is beginning.

Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn. ~Elizabeth Lawrence

Celebrating the Differences

Today I've actually been able to shut down the A/C and open the windows! It's been waaaay too long! (I could tell by the large collection of dead insects on the windowsills between window &  screen that I had to clean up - yeck!) Good enough reason to celebrate don't ya think??
Isn't it interesting to note differences and similarities in various parts of the country? Moving south has brought some of those to the forefront for me. One I noticed really quickly when I first started trying to get around down here is the roads. In Indiana the roads are nicely plotted out north and south, east and west. You can count on meeting an intersecting road about every mile. For a directionally challenged person like myself that is quite comforting - if I missed my turn I could feel fairly confident that in the next mile or two I could take a road that would put me back on track in just a few minutes. Uh, not in Tennessee! If I miss my turn down here the best bet is to immediately find a place to turn around and back track because if you take the next road it is sure to include hairpin turns and lead you 10 miles up and down hills and totally the WRONG WAY from where you were intending to go. I am SO thankful for my GPS!  While I truly appreciate the beautiful scenery around these parts I most certainly miss what I now refer to as "the land of grid"!
While I'm not a really big sports fan, I have noticed a difference in sports preferences too. Down here it is all about football, where in northern Indiana the sport of choice is basketball (heard of Hoosier Hysteria?  it's real!!)  In high school the guys play football just to pass the time until basketball season - vive la diffĂ©rence!

Happy Thursday!!

Inspirational Gift

One of my goals for the day was completing this project, a special request by my daughter to give to a friend who is getting ready to start law school.

Some tiny little letters - but it cuts great in vinyl.
File is sized to fit in an 8x10 photo frame. Once again, I adhered the vinyl to the front of the glass so the background paper can be changed out for a whole new look if desired. This could be enlarged for WallArt, too.

Can't, can't CAN'T believe it is September already!!
Hope everyone has a safe weekend (especially those of you on the East coast!)

"What dreadful hot weather we have!
It keeps me in a continual state of inelegance."
- Jane Austen

After a summer of "inelegance" what a relief to walk out the front door this week and actually be able to breath in a gulp of fresh (not suffocating) air! And after the short jaunt out to the mailbox and back I don't feel as if I need a shower from the "exertion!"
It has been a joy to be able to work on some outdoor projects once again. My garden and flower beds have been a bit neglected throughout the summer months. I've been having fun playing in the dirt again! The sound of bird songs sure beats the hum of the A/C unit! But don't get me wrong - I am thankful for both!!

For those making preparations for the upcoming season here's an oldie but goodie Swirly Pumpkin and Vine file.

Back to School

Yes, it is that time of year again! Hubby & I just realized that this is the first time in 20 years we don't have anyone going "back to school". We've gotten our two through nursery school, elementary school, high school, and now college! Where did the time go?!  I really must admit that this time of year was always bittersweet for me. I always loved having my girls home and, though I was excited for them, I was sad to send them back to school (ie away from me!) every fall.

My niece is ready to start her college career later this month. We're putting together a little goody bag for her (snacks and reminders of home). Found a fun quote and made this for her dorm room.

The file is sized for an 8x10 photo frame. I adhered the vinyl to the front of the glass. That way the background (I used scrapbook paper) can be changed to match anything she likes. It would be fun to add some photos of  friends or school landmarks behind the quote too!

Science Revisited

I had a request for one of my older files - Testtubes & Beakers. I've brought it up to date and added in a microscope cut also. These would work great for school or science related layouts or projects. Could also be used creatively for Halloween or even a "we've got great chemistry" card for your sweetie!!   For the sample I cut the "glass" from vellum and added highlights with a white marker.
This Science Lab is for you, Jeanette!

Live, Love, Giggle!

Is there anything sweeter to the ear than baby giggles??
I challenge anyone not to smile when hearing the precious let-it-loose, body-shaking giggles of a little one playing peek-a-boo with their favorite big person!
Sweeter still are the giggles that make siblings giggle too!

  • "I will not play tug o' war. I'd rather play hug o' war. Where everyone hugs instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles and rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins, and everyone cuddles, and everyone wins.” ~ Shel Silverstein

Hope you have a chance to hear a giggle today :)

Close Encounters

Thought I would get out this morning before it got too hot and do a little shrub maintenance around the house. I was happily trimming shrubs when I saw a wasp get caught in a web, struggle a bit then break free. Now, I grew up on a farm - spiders, bugs, worms, etc - I don't freak out - don't particularly like them - but I can deal with them. I either ignore them, scoop them out of my way or smush them -  no big deal. Well, after witnessing this narrow escape I saw the spider who evidently was ready to pounce on her would-be victim if he had hung around long enough. I stared - pondered for a second - then ran for my camera. Unfortunately(?), the spider had taken cover before I could get the shot but I found this photo online that could pass for "my" spider's twin.
Oh, yeah - a black widow! No doubt in my mind - she had a perfect red hourglass shape on her belly. Next thing I did was grab the can of spider spray and saturate the area!! Then I packed up my tools and headed for the house - I 've definitely done enough outdoor work for today!!

Earlier this week I caught sight of another bug I'd never seen before. This one was running across my sidewalk as I sat on the porch. I did manage to snap a couple photos, but it was a fast mover so you can't see it too clearly.
Looked like a giant furry ant. Checked it out online and discovered it is a Red Velvet Ant aka "Cow Killer"!
Check out this video I found - you can hear how it squeals and see the size of their stinger - YIKES!

After discovering all the dangerous bugs right outside my front door I feel like hiding in a dark corner in my closet - no wait - that's where those venomous Brown Recluse Spiders like to hang out . . . HELP!!

Window Peeper

We've let the birds plant the sunflowers this year.
That means that most of them are concentrated right around the bird feeder.

I think there may be a little espionage going on though . . .
As this one's peeking right in our livingroom window!

I think they may have us "bugged" too!

But . . .

I guess turnabout IS fair play . . .

Because . . .

I've been doing a little window peeping myself!!

Happy Tuesday!!
