Christmas!

I just don't understand how Christmas can sneak up on me when I've been working on projects since July! Honestly, I think minutes are only 1/2 as long as they used to be - or maybe many "things" just don't seem as urgent to me as they once did.

But "things" are being accomplished here . . .

The tree is decorated

The birds have scarves (?!)

The reindeer are in the mail

Gifts are made

And there is even

A file to share!

Other things are still awaiting my attention

 (notice there are no gifts wrapped and under that tree!)

But I don't want to delay in wishing you all a

Book Review - Decision Points

 

Former President George W. Bush has written this book of memoirs to give readers insight into what has shaped him and some of the important decisions he has made both in his personal life and especially while leading the United States of America for the eight years he held the nation’s highest office. 

It was fascinating to read the real-life lessons that affected his decision making as a politician, president and human being. It was refreshing to find that part of his decision making process involved seeking experts on all sides of an issue to better clarify his position. For example his thought process behind the stem cell research decision was based on his personal values as a human being as well as research from experts into the science being done and progress being made. None of which was taken lightly. 

Through reading the book I found that he is a very competitive person, a somewhat spoiled but likeable individual who enjoys history and people. He is very loyal to his family. As a history buff he respects America and the office of President of the United States of America. These traits served him well as he led the country after 9/11. 

The book includes several pages of photos from his personal and public life. Also included is a detailed index, helpful for those much more into historical/political facts than I am. 

President Bush writes in a likeable, unpretentious and honest style. Although I got bogged down a bit in all the foreign affairs issues (I can’t imagine being responsible for a whole country, all her people, domestic and foreign policies), it was interesting to learn about some of the day to day moments of living in the White House and his behind the scenes impressions of others in power in our country and around the world.   

Even those not in agreement with his decisions can come away with the feeling that this man stood up for what he believed personally and stood up for a country and heritage that he respects.
