The basics of this book can be summed up in the title of Chapter 7 – It’s all about progress, not perfection. The author encourages you to focus on the 24 hours that are today because today and this moment are what you can control. By making wise choices now, you can put past failures behind you and make a major life change possible. By building on today’s successes you will gain confidence and faith in yourself to make more wise decisions tomorrow.
Hobbs includes some of her personal experiences in her journey of losing 200 pounds (and keeping it off for 9 years and counting); as well as testimonials of others who have followed her techniques. She has designed her own “10 Commandments” for weight loss and for lifetime fitness to serve as tools to build your new life day by day. A basic one week meal plan is included as an example of good food choices for a new way of life. A simple exercise program using an inexpensive weighted ball and resistance bands can start you on your way to achieving your own “something is better than nothing” daily fitness goals.
While the author’s intent is to help you lose weight, by altering your thought processes and living in the present 24 hours you may find your life transformed in other ways as well.
