This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Simple and Gourd-eous

Hi all - We've just returned from a family celebration/vacation in Branson, Missouri and what a lovely time we had! Our extended family (17 in all) spent a few days taking in the sights and celebrating our parents 50th wedding anniversary. Once I'm back in the groove I expect to have some Branson files to share - so be sure to stop back in the next few weeks to see what I come up with!
In the meantime I've got a super simple craft to share. Besides your imagination only three items are required:
1. Permanent Markers (Bic Mark-its work great)
2. Rub-on Shoe Polish
3. Clean, Dried Gourd

And only three steps:
1. Use the markers to "beautify" the gourd
2. Rub and buff with shoe polish to give an aged, but glowing, appearance
3. Display your creation!

I grew birdhouse gourds in my garden last year, after scrubbing/cleaning them I used a hole saw to make an entrance for the birdies. They make cute decorations both inside and outside the home.

Well, it's back to post-vacation duties for me (you know - unpacking, laundry, all that fun stuff!)
Happy Monday!!

Fathers Day Swing Card

Loving all the options out there for interactive cards!!

Just completed my very first swing card.

I added a pocket on the back of the "swing"  for inserting a gift card.
So fun.

Here's a download of the greeting, just in case anyone else is still working on Father's Day projects :)

Another Redo and a Cutter File too!

Anyone else out there still have a waterbed? We got ours when we got married 28 years ago, and you know how we like to hold on to things . . .
But - I was getting  a bit tired of that big dark piece of furniture and talked hubby into letting me make a change!! Here's the before
{Please excuse the bad photo - I had to scan one from an old album. I got so excited to get the project started I forgot to take before photos!!}
And here's the after
Coordinates much better with my revamped rolltop desk don'tcha think??

We replaced the backing behind the shelves with beadboard to add more interest and detail,
then I gave it a couple coats of white and a brush-on, rub-off of mocha glaze.

To give the mirror a new look I brushed on a heavy layer of white paint, then while the paint was still wet I did a little finger painting!
I've been crafting a few "sea-worthy" accessories too, which I'll highlight in a future post. I'm also keeping my eyes open for beachy curtain and bedding ideas. :)

In keeping with the theme I designed this shell border for all my digital cuttter friends
