Leap Year

Need something to celebrate tomorrow?

I found this website for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and discovered they are celebrating Leap Year 2008 as the Year of the Frog. The site can tell you about any special programs your zoo may be sponsoring.
We saw these brightly colored little amphibians at the Creation Museum this summer.
At first they were so bright and shiny we thought they were plastic!! God certainly made some amazing creatures!

While I won't be visiting any zoos or frogs tomorrow, I did design a file to commemorate this great occasion (LOL!) How about a little game of Leap Frog?

Available at Cutters Market.

Have fun tomorrow - no matter how you spend you day!

More, More, More . . .

Snow that is. We were blanketed with another 8” of the white stuff overnight. The good news – I got a snow day!!! – The bad news – this was the heavy variety of snow – a chore to shovel off the drive – but more good news – it’s the kind that is great for building a snowman. Here’s my attempt.
Notice he’s ready for spring too – sporting flower eyes and buttons! After my time in the snow I came in and designed this little 6x4 frame.
Available at Cutters Market.
Snowy Quotes:
*Winter is snow much fun!
*Snowmen melt, but memories last.
*Snowbody love you like I love you!

More good news - Spring is "only" 23 days away (at least by the calender!)

A Tiny Inside Out Gift

I don't have a cutting file today - but here's a fun gift idea . . .

We celebrated my nephew's twelfth birthday with him on Sunday. He's at the age where the only thing on his gift list is cold hard cash - which can be so boring to give (although much appreciated to receive!)

I usually try to come up with a unique way to present this type of gift just to make it a wee bit memorable. This time I tried some money origami aka money folding. **Not to be confused with money laundering!!** :)

I used crisp bills to make a tiny gift box (click for instructions by Clay Randall) - which was actually the gift - and put the card inside the little box. A Tiny Inside Out Gift! I wrote a birthday greeting on a long, thin strip of paper that I accordion folded so it kind of popped out of the box when opened.

My 19 year old nephew who has been the recipient of a few other "unique" cash gifts commented with a smile "Can't you ever just give us the money??" LOL - what fun is that?? He's had to fish his cash out of a large box of packing peanuts, had it wrapped in a ball of crepe paper
and had the pleasure of unwrapping a box in a box in a box to finally find his gift.

We've got our reputation to uphold now! LOL

Wishing you a fun-filled week!

Lunar Eclipse

Did anyone get a chance to check out the lunar eclipse Wednesday night?
I snapped a couple photos.

I just love challenging my little camera!
By steadying the camera against the porch post I was able to get a couple decent photos. I didn’t stay out and enjoy it long though – it was COLD out there!!

The sky was definitely the inspiration for this file. From starry nights to thunder clouds to beautiful sunsets . . .

A Little Bird . . .

We love watching the birds in our backyard.

For several years we've had a feeder attached to our family room window.
It gives us a great chance to see these feathered creatures up close and personal. And if we are just a bit stealthy we can snap some great photos too. It is interesting to see how some birds (especially blue jays) will climb in the feeder, sling the seeds around and chase off any other birds. While others will zoom in quickly, grab a single seed and fly to a perch in the tree where they crack open and munch their tiny morsel, then quickly return for another.
The Goldfinches are fun because they are so bright and easy to spot. The young and females are a duller color so we can watch how their families interact and grow.

I’m beginning to hear more bird chirps outside my window again – hopefully spring (and the birds) are getting ready to make a comeback.

Here's one of the little guys from my “chubby bird” file collection that I'm presently working on.

Wild Winter Weather

Here we go again!
Another weekend, another “little bit of everything” weather forecast. We had a bit of sun today, clouds tomorrow. Sunday we can expect rain (possibly heavy) changing to freezing rain and ending with snow on Monday!
Deja vu! I gather many other areas of the country have experienced the same type of roller coaster weather patterns this winter.

I've snapped lots of photos of our weather extremes and so I designed this file for a layout title. Just like our forecast it includes a bit of everything – snow, rain, sun and clouds.

Available at Cutters Market.

Never a Dull Moment! Have a great weekend!

A Few Hearts

Did you know that the NECCO candy company used the weather as inspiration for new sayings on their Conversation Hearts candies this year? A couple of the new sayings are very appropriate for our weather today. When I look out my window Chill Out and Get My Drift seem to be the order of the day, but Sunshine and a Heat Wave would sure be appreciated (at least by me!)

Other 2008 sayings:
Melt My Heart
In a Fog
Cloud Nine
Wild Life
Nature Lover
Do Good

Hope you enjoy these borders, one runs vertical, the other horizontal.

Links of Love

Here’s a fun little file. Craft a heart link chain to embellish a valentine or layout.
After cutting, fold the hearts on dashed line then link them together by passing the point end through a folded heart. Add as many links as you'd like. As a bonus you’ll have lots of heart shaped cutouts too! Great file to share with the kids!

A Peek at The Dress!

DD was so pleased to see/try on her dress in a size that actually fit! She is little, a size 4, the dress she tried on at the bridal boutique was a 10 – just a “tad” sloppy LOL. This one looks lovely on her, it has a corset-type back – so it will be easy to get a good fit, a strapless, sweetheart neckline, a fitted bodice and a full layered skirt. I’ll need to take off between 4-6” depending on the shoes she chooses. There are SEVEN layers I will have to shorten, although only two will need an actual hem, the others are tulle and can "just" be neatly trimmed.

Embroidery/Beading detail on bodice.

The gown has metallic thread embroidery work and sparkly beads on the bodice and sprinkled about the skirt. Definitely will make her look like a princess!

Here’s a fun little border for a card or layout.

SuperBowl Sunday

Okay, here’s my confession – I’m a sports fan by marriage only. Sports haven’t really played a very big part in my life. My athletic abilities are practically non-existent. Hubby is the athlete and sports enthusiast of the family and I’ve cheered for him and my girls at their games, but professional sports don’t attract much of my attention.
We are, however, getting together with friends for a Superbowl Party this Sunday, so I do have a vague idea of what’s going on in the sports world. LOL
This file includes a football frame and several mix & match titles that could be used with it.

Happy Weekend!

** The snow stopped this morning after about 6" of accumulation. Both girls plus fiance' are heading here this evening. Driving shouldn't be a problem! God is Good!**
