Catch the Reading Bug

At the library we are gearing up for our summer reading program, the theme this year is Catch the Reading Bug. Everyone is really getting caught up in the insect theme and bugs are starting to pop up everywhere!

I’ve been listing all the books about bugs in the Children’s Dept. and although we have quite an extensive list, I guess the following titles just weren’t deemed worthy to include in the collection.

I Believe I Can Fly by Kat R. Piller
My Life Undercover by B. Ed Buggz
Leave them Scratching by Moe Skeetows
Fly Away Home by Ladybird B. Tell
Meta-Morph by Yukon Phly
Controlling Hives by Dr. Kween Bea
Getting Along with Your Co-Workers by R. MeeAnnt
A Little Night Music by Cree Kits
Avoiding the Early Bird by Eartha Erm
Beekeeping: The Basics by A. P. Airy
Navigating the West Nile by Amos Keytoe
How to Look Busy by Ali Z. Yant
Catch the Guy of Your Dreams by Webbie Spinner
Treat Her Like a Queen by A. B. Colony
A New You by Kris Alice
Insects: Past and Future by Marty McFly
Quick & Easy Snacks by Anton A. Logg

Isn’t it strange where one’s mind goes early in the morning??!! LOL

I’ve found another fun product to use with my cutter – removable book covers! These are the kind with repositionable adhesive on the back. I cut basic bug shapes from them (using the vinyl setting) and we are using them to decorate windows, etc. I have some in transparent neon colors and holographic designs too. I love how they leave no messy adhesive behind.
Y Have I mentioned, I LOVE my cutter!!

So many projects, so little time . . .

Question - how many projects can one work on at the same time before their head explodes?? Don't know the answer yet - but I may be cutting it close! LOL
Between birthday, Mothers day, shower, wedding and work projects I've been keeping my little CR working - when I get time I'll have many projects to share!
For now . . .

Last weekend we traveled to Ohio and attended the bridal shower thrown by her fiance's family. We had a great time, and it was heartwarming to see how they have accepted her so easily into the family. For a gift I again embellished photo frames with cutouts from the stainless-look shelf liner paper. This time, in addition to the Mr & Mrs flourish, I did a 5x7 frame with their wedding date. I picked them up at an after Christmas clearance for 75% off!!

I made this card for the gift.

To go along with the Live, Love, Laugh charm on the card the inside reads "Wishing you years of love and laughter as you begin your Happily Ever After!"

Little Love Charms

We did a little embellishing to DD's wedding invites before they went out, easy and inexpensive thanks to my Craft Robo. She found ribbon to match her wedding color and I cut the little charm from Coral Pink Petallics Cover weight paper by Worldwin Papers. (Cut wonderfully!! and is beautiful paper!)

The RSVP's are rolling in - how exciting!

Sounds like a wonderful, sunny, warm holiday here in Indiana!
We are so ready for it!!
Have a joy-filled weekend!

Magnolia Blossom

The trees have bloomed so beautifully this year. Unlike some years when just as things start to blossom we get a freeze and they all turn brown and fall off. This year everything just seemed to be loaded with beautiful blooms that have hung on for days. I've noticed especially the magnolia trees have been just lovely. When I saw a request for a magnolia bloom I just had to take on the challenge. Hope you enjoy this paper pieced version that can remind you of spring all year long!

Graduation Gift Idea!

Looking for something unique for a special graduate?

Take a cue from Lisa and make a personalized gift sure to be appreciated. I love the look she achieved by printing her poem on vellum and layering that over the Class of 2008 cut. Along with the Graduation Flourish (notice how she personalized the caps!) she cut and matted the graduate's name and finished it off by framing her project in a classy frame. A very elegant look!

Thanks Lisa, for sharing this great idea!

Wacky (Cake)

Sorry for the hit and miss blogging lately, but it probably will not get much better until after June at least! Doesn't mean I'm not thinking of you though! LOL

Revisiting DD's shower . . . after introductions the "game" was for DD to make a cake - without a recipe! Some possible ingredients were set out on the counter (including Worcestershire sauce??) and she was to proceed to make an edible cake! She surprised her hosts, however, by asking for some vinegar to add to the ingredient list. She was recalling one of our favorite recipes for a fast and simple dessert - Wacky Cake! She next surprised everyone by baking it in the microwave. But the biggest surprise (to many) was that it turned out great! Just so happens it was one of the recipes I included in her album. Here's the layout -

And here's the recipe.
We usually make a simple powdered sugar glaze (powdered sugar and water or milk) to top the warm cake. It's another favorite around here! Especially good on a chilly winter evening.

Take a look!!

I'd like to share some layouts sent in by my friend Sandie. She made a wonderful gift album for her daughter's cheerleading coach.

She scrapped pictures from different events throughout the year and also made a page featuring each of the young cheerleaders and included on that page a letter they had written to the coach expressing their personal words of thanks. At the end of the year party they presented the album and read their thank you's.

What a thoughtful way to thank a coach! Thanks for sharing your photos and ideas Sandie!!
Today's share is a "Friend Square" dedicated to all the new friends I've made since starting this blog. Thanks for being a part of my on-line life!

Shower Card

Sunday was a beautiful spring day! While DH went to softball practice, the girls & I had a wedding shower to attend! DD came home with lots of goodies. Lots of new things – but no where to put them – her room is already full – as is the rest of our house! Gonna have to do some creative thinking/stashing or just live with boxes in every room for the next couple months. LOL

Here’s the card I attached to my gift.

I found the image online, matted it on patterned paper then attached it to my card. I inked the edges on all the layers, added a silk flower and the metal joy embellishment. I lightly stamped a flower design around the edges of the card to tie it all together. And of course added a title I cut with my CR.

Available at Cutters Market.

Card Sentiments:

*Showering you with good wishes.
*Hugs & wishes

Main Dish Recipe

Been adding plenty of sweets to the album, guess it's time for some "real" food. I found this to be a great dish for carry-ins; it works great served from a crockpot.

Here's the recipe

We enjoy Chinese food (haven't mastered the chopsticks though!) There are three local eateries that we visit when we crave a bit of the Orient. One serves our favorite eggrolls, another offers up large servings and is great for a carry-out meal and the third has a buffet with a whole range of dishes from which to choose. And, of course, we always have fun finishing off the meal by opening our fortune cookies!

Available at Cutters Market!

Cookie Fortunes:

*If you continually give, you will continually have.
*The one you love is closer than you think.
*A secret admirer will soon send you a sign of affection.

Thanks for visiting!!
