Back to School

It is back to school time in our area. When my girls were younger this time of year was always my least favorite. I loved having them home for the summer, having time to slow down the pace a bit, spending time together, and discovering new things to do in our neighborhood. Those “lazy” summer days always seemed to pass too quickly.

Our tradition for the first day of school was to take a photo with the carefully chosen “first day” outfit and new bookbag on the porch. This tradition had to change as the girls got older since they were worried “someone” would see us taking pictures outside (gasp!) – so we moved the photo shoot indoors. LOL

This photo shows my younger daughter ready for 6th grade. She really didn’t dislike school as much as this picture would have you believe. She had great teachers, lots of friends, did great in her studies, ran track and was a cheerleader. She had a full, fun school career, but always reminded us how much she disliked school!

I won't be blogging for a couple days - we're off for a few days of "Family Fun" before the girls head back to college.

  1. Oh my gosh, Vickie--we had the same "first day of school photo" tradition with our daughter (only child.) I LOVE looking back at those pictures to see how she changed each year. Like your girls, sometimes she wasn't that enthused about taking the photo. HOWEVER, when she graduated from high school and went off to the university four hours away from home--guess what? She got her room mate to take her picture on the first day of classes and emailed it to me! It made me cry and laugh at the same time. Little traditions like that really are special to our children, even if they sometimes act like they're not. Love the title. Thanks again,

  3. Love the file - I'm going to use it for the band at our High School also - their back to school concert was going to be tonight, but was rained out. Guess they shouldn't have planned it for outside.
