Treasure Hunt

Has anyone else tried Geocaching??
It is an outdoor activity that fits in well with camping and is great family fun – Like a giant world-wide treasure hunt!

How it works:
You can log on to geocaching.com to find hidden “caches” in your area (or anywhere you will be visiting). Enter the listed cache coordinates into your portable GPS (Global Positioning System) unit and GO! The cache may simply be a log book that you sign. But the most exciting are those where you can choose a "treasure" from the hidden container and leave a treasure of your own - usually some kind of small trinket - for our first find we chose a little baseball bobblehead figure and left a refrigerator magnet.

It is amazing how many caches are hidden – there may be one right in your own neighborhood!

Anyway, I created this title for a layout about our “First Find”, but there are all sorts of ways you could use it. Send me a photo – I’d love to see the results!

Geocaching Files now available at Cutters Market.

To Ponder or Journal:
What are your greatest treasures?

*The love in our family flows strong & deep, leaving us memories to treasure & keep
*We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. ~Thornton Wilder
*Our most treasured family heirlooms are our sweet family memories.
*For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21

  3. Vickie,
I read part of an article in Parents magazine this month about letterboxing...is geocaching the same thing with a different name?

  4. Oh yes, our family loves to geocache. And, as a teacher I have presented workshops on the educational uses of GPS receivers, and the fun of geocaching, in the classroom. My students have a couple of travel bugs that are currently traveling around the country. Fun! Thanks again for another great file.

  5. The geobugs/travel bugs sound really neat, but we've not really looked for any of those yet.

Yes Shae - I believe it is the same thing, the first time I read of it, the article used that name also.
