Something to Say?

July is a busy time for us. We have a rash of family birthdays this month and I've been making cards (always at the last minute, of course!!)

In the next few posts I'll share some pix.

Here's the one I made for my 3 year old nephew.

I used a scrap of corrugated cardboard for the "field" and hand-cut the wagon.

Inside I wrote - "Wishing you loads of fun on your third birthday!"

Here's today's share . . .

Love to see how you use them!!

Blog-cation?

Guess I took an unplanned blogcation this week.
Evidently my mind just needed a creativity break??
Whatever - I didn't do any file designing or paper cutting.
I can say I worked on reorganizing my creative spaces along with some sewing and baking.

And look what I saw outside my window . . .

The turkeys returned and brought the kids! They are kind of hard to see in the photo but I think there were 5-6 funny looking baby birdies strutting around in the weeds.
Hope I don't offend any turkey lovers out there, but I think these guys are kinda ugly!!

Repurpose a broken Shovel

We're slowing giving our new place a little personality.
My little herb and vegetable garden is off to a great start.

Pre-Garden

Freshly Planted Garden

June Garden

We've enjoyed fresh basil, rosemary, chives, thyme and even a ripe tomato already!!

I've also cleared out a small patch in the front yard by the creek for a few flowers, if I can keep them watered we should be enjoying their blooms shortly!

On our last visit up north to clear out the garage I came upon a broken shovel. Much to hubby's dismay ;) I tucked it in a corner of the car and brought it back with us.

I'm happy to report that after lugging it all the way down here I've actually found a way to use it!! I cleaned it, added a vinyl quote and some cutouts, 'planted' it and . . .

Now even if my flowers dry up (definite possibility!!) I've still got a bit of whimsey to gaze upon.

Here's the file, in case you'd like to try a project of your own

Gift Idea - Family Plaque

We celebrated my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary over the weekend. We helped host an open house in their honor. Even though my MIL wasn't looking forward to it (she hates to be the center of attention) they seemed to enjoy visiting with friends and family members who came to share a slice of cake and a few memories.

In honor of the occasion I designed a family plaque for them. Although it wasn't my intention, we added it to the display table along with family photos and other family memorabilia.

I attached vinyl designs cut with my Robo to a flooring tile I purchased at a local home improvement store.

This was my third family plaque, as I made one for our DD's 1st anniversary.
This one started out as a bare wooden plaque from a craft store that I painted. I cut a "B" and used it as a reverse stencil. Then adhered the vinyl.

I also made one for our family.
This one started as a nice smooth Tennessee rock we found on the edge of our creek!
I scrubbed it clean then adhered the vinyl.

You could also use the same idea but attach the vinyl to the glass of a photo frame or shadow box. A serving tray would make a nice background as well!

Here's the card . . .

Here's the completed card I made for hubby using the freebie file in the last post.

"For the guy who keeps our family running smoothly"

I wrapped his gift using the pages from a sporting goods store sale circular and masking tape!

Happy Weekend!

Fathers Day

Don't know why I wait until the last minute to make my cards, guess I must work better under pressure?!

Anyway, I'm using this file as part of the card for my hubby. Thought I'd share in case there's anyone else like me out there!

What a Bracket!

Had a wonderful visit with DD & hubby over the weekend! They got to see our new home and we got to meet their new puppy, Gambit.

DD#2 also returned home after her trip to Europe, so we've had a lot of catching up to do.

On a not quite so bright note - we thought we had our house up north sold, but the deal fell through :(
We'll give it another go and hope for better results next time!!

Today's share is a star bracket - great for birthdays or patriotic celebrations.
Lots of pieces to layer and play with.

Graduation - Inspiration - Celebration!

Busy time for us. We travelled back north over the weekend. We've accepted an offer on our house there!! We still have a few things in the shed and garage so we were working on cleaning that out. Also celebrated with our niece as she graduated HS, and attended our nephew's baseball game, along with visiting family and friends.

This weekend our married daughter & hubby will be visiting from North Carolina. Their first time to see our place. Another fun and busy weekend before us.
Gotta love summer!

I designed this Inspirational Word Mesh for our niece's graduation card. I know graduation season is practically finished - but you may find another use for it . . .

More Backyard Visitors

Thought I'd share some more photos . . .
The other evening we saw a shadow outside the livingroom window - we took a look and saw a pretty black and white kitty walking along the windowsill. As we were gazing at the kitty, we looked a little farther into the yard and noticed another visitor
The kitty noticed too and we were afraid there might be a not so pleasant result . . . but fortunately it was a smart kitty, just watched a while then sauntered over to the neighbor's yard.

The skunk, however, hung around and did some cleaning up under the birdfeeder. We have noticed him several evenings now - just before it gets completely dark.
Who knows what goes on when we can't see??!!
Do I really want to know??

Spaced Out

Hope everyone in the US had a relaxing long weekend.

We took a day trip on Sunday to Huntsville, Alabama, only a little more than an hours drive from us. While there we visited the US Space & Rocket Center Museum.

Quite interesting! The size of the rockets/exhibits is just mind boggling - and then to realize that someone actually knows what makes this stuff work is truly amazing!! LOL It was a bit over my head, 'cause you know, it does take a Rocket Scientist to figure that stuff out!!

Hubby and I enjoyed the trip and I came home with a head full of new ideas for cutter files.
Hope you enjoy this one!

Guatemala

Been catching up with DD after her return from Guatemala. She had a very memorable and meaningful time. She is glad to be home enjoying (and seeing with new eyes) all the conveniences we so often take for granted. Yet, she was sad to leave her new friends and carries with her the image of all the work left to be done.

While there her team laid the cinder block walls for a house for a family whose home was lost in a mudslide. The family was especially appreciative as the father suffers from epilepsy and was not able to do the building work himself. She also has many stories and memories of the children she taught, played with and came to love.

I think she has a greater understanding of how one person can really make a difference in the life of another (both physically and eternally). Since day one at college she has been encouraged to be a "world changer" and I think she now really believes that she can be! (Notice any proud parents around here? LOL)

Have a Wonder-filled Wednesday!

Serendipity-do-da!

As I was sitting at the computer this morning I heard a thud at the back door.

As I peered out the window to see what may have bumped into the house to make the noise I saw two of these

So, of course, I grabbed my camera to snap a couple photos.

A light mist was falling so I tried to get some decent shots through the windows. As I glanced out the window, down by my little herb garden I saw this

So who cares about a little rain, I just had to go on outside to see what else was going on.

The turtle was pretty shy - but I was able to get a shot of him peeking out of his slightly cracked shell.

As I walked around to get a better view I surprised the bird that built a nest on the downspout of the house and she perched on the feeder and gave me a dirty look.

(I think she is a phoebe). She gets awfully upset when we startle her out of the nest, so there just may be a few eggs in there!

So I moved back around to the porch and heard a chatter and a buzz - the hummingbirds were fighting over who should get the next sip of nectar. I snapped this photo of Mr. Hummer,

then hummer #2 zipped on in for a sip. I was surprised that I was actually able to capture them both in the same shot!

What a busy morning!! I'm still not sure what made the noise that initially made me look outside, but I'm glad I didn't miss out on all this wild life! (Is it any wonder I have a hard time getting things done around here LOL!)
